OPEN SOURCE
Introduction
Meaning of open
source software
Open-source
software (OSS) is computer software with its source code made available with a
license in which the copyright holder provides the rights to study, change and
distribute the software to anyone and for any purpose. Open-source software is
developed in a collaborative public manner. Open-source software is the most
prominent example of open-source development and often compared to (technically
defined) user-generated content or (legally defined) open-content movements. It
is very often developed in a public, collaborative manner. Open source software
is the most prominent example of open source development and often compared to
user-generated content.
Meaning of hardware
Computer hardware
(usually simply called hardware when a computing context is implicit) is the
collection of physical elements that constitutes a computer system. Computer
hardware is the physical parts or components of a computer, such as the
monitor, mouse, keyboard, computer data storage, hard disk drive (HDD), system
unit, example graphic cards, sound cards, memory, motherboard and chips, and so
on, all of which are physical objects that can be touched (that is, they are
tangible). In contrast, software is instructions that can be stored and run by
hardware.
Meaning of software
Computer software or simply software is any
set of machine-readable instructions that directs a computer's processor to
perform specific operations. Computer software contrasts with computer
hardware, which is the physical component of computers. Computer hardware and
software require each other and neither can be realistically used without the
other. Software includes website, programs and many more that are coded by
programing languages such as C, C++, Java, etc.
The Latest Open Source Operating System (OS)
2.1 Meaning of open source OS
An
operating system is a set of programs containing instructions that coordinate
all the activities among computer hardware resources. Most operating system
perform similar function that includes starting a computer, provide a user
interface, managing program, managing memory and configuring devices. Some
operating system also allows user to control a network and administer security.
Open Source Operating System is any operating
system that is free to use and which provides the original code where the
source code is available (under a copyright license) to the public, which
enables them to use, modify / enhance the operating system, and redistribute
the modified (or unmodified) form of the operating system. The advance user can
modify the code of the operating system to make it works better for them in starting
the computer or a likely user interface.
